McQueen: A Legacy

12 Feb

A year ago today, fashion lost one of its greats, Alexander McQueen. The designer passed away shortly before showing his last collection. He was known for pushing the boundaries with his runway shows not just with the clothing, but with the staging as well. From his chessboard show to his armadillo heels, he kept his audiences on the edge of their seats, waiting for what would come next.

After his death, there was much speculation about who, if anyone, could take over for the fashion visionary. McQueen’s longtime assistant, Sarah Burton, was named creative director for the fashion house, and has proven herself capable of carrying on his legacy. While we cannot have McQueen himself designing awe-inspiring collections, the next best thing is watching what his second in command imagines the designer would have come up with play out on the runway each season.

R.I.P. Lee Alexander McQueen, you are missed, but your legacy lives on.
