Kate Middleton + Sarah Burton= Excitement

7 Mar

Ever since the news of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s engagement was broadcast, fashion blogs and magazines have had one question on their minds: Who will design her wedding dress? The news and speculation haven’t been too exciting until now. Middleton is keeping it a secret, but rumors are that she has chosen Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen to design her dress. Burton is currently denying it, but it could still be her, since she would have been sworn to secrecy.

The soon-to-be princess is known for her conservative style choices. She usually wears classic silhouettes, with skirt suits and trench coats part of her regular wardrobe. This is an exciting collaboration if Middleton is working with Burton, since Burton is known for artistically feminine pieces.

Burton recently designed a wedding dress for Sara Buys (picture right), the fashion writer who married Tom Parker Bowles (son of Camilla Parker Bowles, wife of Prince Charles). The dress Buys wore was a departure from the usual traditional, long-sleeved lace dresses worn by royals. It was a simple and modern, form-fitting and feminine, strapless with a fishtail.

Middleton supposedly consulted her soon-to-be loosely connected relative for help in her wedding dressing decision. Hopefully Middleton’s wedding dress will be more stately than Buys’s– slightly avant-garde, yet extremely flattering, so she can have her first truly royal fashion moment, tiara optional.
